Garden of Mirrors
For this project, I worked with a team of artists to build a game world based on the myth of Medusa. My job was to take their concept art and character models and turn them into a playable level. I acted as the bridge between the art and the gameplay, making sure the environment looked right and played well.
Responsibilities:
Designing the Space
Thematic Layouts: I took the main ideas from the Medusa myth and turned them into physical spaces that fit the "feel" of the story.
Artist Collaboration: I looked at the team's concept art and character models to make sure the level design matched their visual style.
Level Layout & Blockouts
Gameplay Blockouts: I created the first version of the level using basic shapes (greyboxing) to test how the world should be shaped before the final art was added.
Foundation Building: I set up the level so that narrative and visual details could be easily added later without breaking the gameplay.
Player Flow & Experience
Pathing: I designed the layout to guide players naturally through the world, using the environment to show them where to go.
Interaction & Flow: I focused on the "moment-to-moment" feel of the game, making sure the movement felt smooth and the gameplay stayed engaging.
Visual Composition: I arranged the level to create interesting views that highlight the characters and the most important parts of the environment.
Team Coordination
Setting Technical Requirements: I built the level structure in a way that gave the artists and animators the exact space they needed to do their work.
Supporting the Pipeline: I made sure the level's technical setup worked for everyone on the team, from character animation to final lighting.
Software Used: Unreal Engine 5.6, Premiere Pro & Photoshop.
